RINGLING’S MAJOR PROBLEM

Many students choose a major without knowing if it fits their interests. Identifying their top interests helps recommend better aligned majors, especially for Motion Design, since many think only CA involves animation.

CONCEPTS

Academy Map

A map where every location is city that is themed after every major. It shows that no matter what major you choose you will be going into a community that will welcome you.
Collage Banners

Choose a banner and see the type animate on in the style that the major would ask you to be animated in. These banners would showcase each majors personality.

BUILDING RIVE ASSETS

Before moving on to animation and interactivity, I first had to build all of the assets in Rive. This included creating multiple versions of several majors buildings for the map, as well as designing additional info cards for two other majors that ultimately weren’t included in the final project.

RIVE Technical Execution

This was my first serious project in Rive, and it came with plenty of challenges. I had to troubleshoot unfamiliar interactions and figure out the best way to approach what I wanted to build. With help from Ana Kuster and additional research, I was able to bring everything together and create a fully functional interactive loading quiz.

ANIMATION

Rives hitbox’s are a transparent shape that makes an object interactive. After adding it, you set a listener for actions like clicks and link it to a trigger in the Data tab to control the animation..

In order to switch between Art boards in Animation Rive has its own comps that are able to be switched through a number node.

with Rives, Data tab lets you create triggers that control your animations. Booleans react to things like mouse hover, while triggers activate actions such as clicks.

Every new screen is premade on another part of Rive and then brought into one master board to easily switch between art boards.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Relearning Rive for a project far more complex than anything I’d done before was a challenge, but I adapted quickly. In just three weeks, I was able to build a polished demo that shows how an interactive experience could help students explore and choose their majors.
